Unicorn-Marine was formed on the retirement of Nick Jones from Stolt Tankers BV, a specialist in transporting bulk chemical parcels, where he was responsible for business applications development and support. Key among these systems was the enhancement and implementation of Veson's IMOS system as a replacement for inhouse built AS400 applications which themselves had been class leading when developed in the mid-90’s. Since Stolt’s fleet-wide implementation in 2011, IMOS has been adopted by numerous other parcel and product tanker operators.
Prior to this Nick worked in a number of industries, in all cases being closely involved in the application of IT to the business processes. These include:
- Payment factory & Inhouse banking with Alterna Technologies integrating ERP systems with the banking networks to optimize international payments and manage cashflow
- Agricultural commodity trading with Cargill in the UK supporting 16 businesses in the UK and across continental Europe
- Soft drinks manufacture with Hero Drinks group integrating ERP with automated warehouse crane, guided vehicle and conveyor systems, plus extensive EDI links with customers for ordering and invoicing
- And prior to these with iron foundry, horticultural cooperative and charity organisations.
